CHRISTMAS
Christmas is a time for giving—whether it’s gifts, love, or kindness. It’s my favorite time of year because it’s an opportunity to share with friends and family. But beyond the presents, what makes Christmas truly special is the warmth and love that fills the air. During this season, I feel surrounded by love through the laughter we share, the hugs exchanged, and the joy of being close to those who matter most. This is the true spirit of Christmas: it’s not just about what we give, but how we give it—with sincerity and care.
On December 22, our family gathered at our home in Caoayan to celebrate both Christmas and New Year. The house was full of festive decorations, delicious food, and happy conversations. Being together reminded us that Christmas is not just a date, but a time of unity. It’s when families reconnect, strengthen bonds, and create memories that last beyond the holiday season.
One of the highlights of our celebration was when my tita gave us ampao (red envelopes with money). While it may seem like a simple gesture, it held great meaning. Gift-giving at Christmas has always been a tradition rooted in love and generosity. From the biblical story of the Three Wise Men bringing gifts to the newborn Jesus, to modern-day practices, giving presents symbolizes thoughtfulness and care. Receiving the ampao wasn’t just about the money—it was about the love and blessings my tita wanted to share.
Ultimately, Christmas is about more than just material gifts. It’s about giving time, kindness, and love to others. Whether through presents, shared meals, or meaningful words, the true spirit of Christmas lies in generosity and gratitude. As we welcomed the New Year, I realized that the greatest gift of all was the presence of family, the joy of being together, and the love that unites us. That is the true essence of Christmas—an endless cycle of giving and receiving love.
